Multi-step equations: with distribution
Printable practice with an answer key the engine computes, at three levels, in as many versions as you need.
Problem types
- distribute, then combine: 2(x + 3) + 4x = 18
- distribute, x on both sides: 3(x + 2) = x + 10
- subtract a group, then combine: 5x − (x + 3) = 9
Sample Sheet · Level 1
- 4(x + 3) + 2x = 48
- 0 = 4(x + 5) + x
- −15 = 4(x − 6) − x
- 3(7 + x) + 3x = 9
- 7(3 + x) = 3x + 57
- 9(x + 4) = 6x + 42
- 7(x + 6) = 3x + 74
- x − 6 = 3(x + 4)
Answer key
- x = 6
- x = −4
- x = 3
- x = −2
- x = 9
- x = 2
- x = 8
- x = −9
Sample Sheet · Level 3
- 11x − 2(x + 7) = −27
- 6x − 4(x + 1) = −9
- 46 = 4x − (x − 7)
- 3(7 + 3x) − 6x = −48
- 3(3x − 6) + x = −58
- 3(3x + 6) − 4x = 28
- 3(2x − 4) = 10x − 80
- 4x − 44 = 8(x − 2)
Answer key
- x = −139 = −149
- x = −52 = −212
- x = 13
- x = −23
- x = −4
- x = 2
- x = 17
- x = −7
Make your own
